The best way I've found won't work every time but it will give you the biggest leg up against everyone -
Get referred into the job by someone who already works there.
Don't Apply Online
Let's say your applying for an account manager job at a software company, #1 DON'T APPLY FOR THE JOB ONLINE
Find Your Insider
Instead - search for "account managers" already in that role at that company and reach out on linkedin -
"Hey John, I was thinking about applying for the AM role at XYZ company, would you recommend working there?"
Build the Relationship
This starts the conversation - if you're a likeable person asking for help is well received - ask if they would be open to a 5 min chat about the company and offer to buy them a coffee.
The Referral Ask
After the chat say -
"hey i havn't applied yet, do you get a referral bonus if I enter your employee code in or something?"
If you built enough trust in the conversation they will say -
"oh hell yeah! let me apply for you through our internal portal"
Now this employee will get paid for your referral. They are vested in you getting the job.
Some tech companies pay $5-20K per referral!
IMPORTANT
If you already applied online then the employee referral is invalid - it only works for fresh applicants not ones who have already applied.
